(FREE WORKSHOP) MERLION 2026 Volume Electron Microscopy Workshop
This workshop will bring together expertise from both institutions to showcase recent advances and applications in volume electron microscopy (EM), with a particular focus on practical approaches and workflows.
The workshop will feature talks from invited speakers from Singapore and France, as well as practical demonstrations covering sample preparation, ultramicrotomy for array tomography, EM imaging and data analysis, with access to state-of-the-art equipment from industry partners.

Volume Imaging Symposium 2026 (VIS2026)

Limited Travel Grant for iSEA Conference 2026 (Deadline 31 May)
The travel grant is intended to help cover part of the travel and accommodation expenses for selected applicants. Applications will be evaluated based on academic merit, relevance of research to the conference theme, and the potential impact of participation. Selected participants will receive a travel grant of USD 350 per person to support their participation in the conference.

iSEA 2026 PCW- LIGHT MICROSCOPY WORKSHOP
The Advanced 3D Cell Culture Imaging: From Acquisition to Analysis workshop was held at the Scientific Imaging Center (SIC), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). It covered confocal microscopy for imaging 3D cell culture models, from image acquisition to analysis. The workshop was organised by SIC ITB, iCORE Microscopy at A*STAR Singapore, and Evident Scientific Singapore.

iSEA 2026 PCW: CRYO-ELECTRON MICROSCOPY WORKSHOP
Exploring Cryo-EM Applications on Cells and Proteins Workshop was held at the BRIN Cryo-EM Laboratory, Cibinong, Bogor. The workshop introduced the principles and workflow of Cryo-EM and demonstrated its application to structural studies of cells and proteins. The workshop was organised in collaboration between the Cryo-EM Facility at BRIN and the Scientific Imaging Center (SIC), ITB.

iSEA Pre Conference Workshop at UPM, Malaysia
The iSEA Pre-Conference Workshop, held from 10–11 November 2025, bring
together a multidisciplinary community of participants from Malaysia, Singapore,
Thailand and the Philippines. Jointly organised by the Microscopy Unit, Institute of
Bioscience UPM; iSEA; JEOL Malaysia & Singapore; Leica Singapore; Histocenter
Sdn. Bhd. and Oxford Instruments Pte. Ltd., the workshops offered a valuable
platform for learning and collaboration in the field of microscopy. Led by experienced
experts from across Southeast Asia, the programme provided hands-on training in
advanced microscopy techniques, imaging workflows, and data analysis. This
workshop successfully created a dynamic learning environment filled with curiosity,
collaboration, and discovery to support research and innovation in the life sciences.

iSEA: A New Regional Network Empowering Bioimaging Scientists
Like other bioimaging networks and infrastructures around the world, iSEA aims to enhance access to advanced imaging technologies and expertise, bridge research infrastructure gaps, and drive higher-quality imaging, more reproducible data, and faster scientific discoveries.
Southeast Asia's unique geographical challenges, including its many islands, multitude of languages, remote locations, and varying levels of imaging expertise across the scattered imaging infrastructures, highlight the need for a strong community.
With this in mind, Teng Leong Chew, Director for the Advanced Imaging Center at HHMI Janelia, Satoshi Ogawa, Associate Professor at Monash University Malaysia, and Graham Wright, Director of the Research Support Centre at Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), joined forces. Along with the support of their colleagues and regional partners, they laid the foundation for iSEA, culminating in its recent launch.
